Tameka O’Brien
Your Advocate for Family Law and Intellectual Property
A seasoned family law and litigator for more than 20 years, Tameka handles divorce, child custody, support, child welfare appeals, and other complex matters. Tameka seeks settlement first but is always prepared for trial when conflict escalates.
In recent years, much of her practice has concentrated on supporting people in controlling relationships, particularly those involving financial manipulation. These cases require not only legal skills but also an awareness of personal and emotional dynamics. She helps clients find a relator, mortgage broker, therapist and financial advisor. These are things they often don’t think about without her guidance.
Tameka helps them focus on having the right tools after the unknown. “I’m dealing with good people in bad times in their lives. Once they’re done, they see they’ve gotten through tough times and how much better life gets.”
Clients often tell her they want a communicative lawyer. That’s why she offers weekly calls with clients and keeps a small caseload. Doing so is how she combines big law caliber with boutique-level attention.
She keeps clients informed and involved so they feel like they know what’s going on and understand what comes next. They know when and what things will happen and what to expect every step of the way.
Tameka was raised in the Big Bend area on the west coast of Florida and earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She attended St. Thomas University in Miami, for law school, receiving her Juris Doctorate in 2005. She often worked three jobs while in law school and was an Articles Editor for the St. Thomas Law Review, was the Vice President of Moot Court, and was on the board of the school’s chapter for FAWL (Florida Association of Women Lawyers).
She moved to Tampa in 2006, where she as prosecuted felony-level crimes at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office until she moved to Massachusetts in 2010. In 2011, she opened Grantham Law, later renaming her practice Grantham O’Brien Family Law when she married Christopher O’Brien, who practices Education Law.
